Learning Styles Survey
If you would like to learn about the ways that you prefer to learn, why not fill in our free survey below? It will only take you a couple of minutes and will give an accurate insight into your preferred styles of learning.
Based on the work of Peter Honey and Alan Mumford (1982) this simple Learning Styles Survey is designed to give you an insight into the ways that you most like to learn. The graph in the worksheet will identify the learning style or styles that you have the strongest preference for.
As with all of our behaviors, these preferences are naturally occurring however, it is possible to maximize the strengths of our learning style and also to choose to use elements of the other styles when it is more appropriate. In many cases, people score equally highly on two or even three styles, in these cases of blends read all of the corresponding descriptions and consider in what situations you tend to use each style and why.
- Activists - Involve themselves fully and without bias in new experiences. They are open-minded and enthusiastic and tend to dash into new activities. As soon as the excitement from one activity has decreased, they are busy looking for the next. They are gregarious and social people with a tendency to centre activities and attention around themselves.
- Reflectors - Like to stand back to ponder experiences and observe them from many different perspectives. Their philosophy is cautious, collecting as much data as possible before reaching any conclusion. They prefer to take a back seat and observe others, comfortable with keeping a low profile.
- Theorists - Adapt and integrate observations into complex but logically sound theories. They tend to be perfectionists who cannot rest easy until things are tidy and fit into their rational scheme. They prize rationality and logic and tend to be detached and analytical. They frequently reject anything they see as irrational or illogical and feel uncomfortable with subjective judgments, lateral thinking and anything flippant.
- Pragmatists - Keen to try out ideas, theories and techniques to see if they work in practice. They like to get on with things and act quickly and confidently on ideas that attract them. They don't like beating around the bush and tend to be impatient with ruminating open-ended discussion. They are essentially practical people who like making practical decisions and solving problems and see problems as challenges to be enjoyed and learned from.
