These are the really hard skills to learn! Over the last few years it has become increasingly obvious to the enlightened that emotional ability (EQ) is at least as important as intelligent ability (IQ). Too many bright managers and professionals are consciously or unconsciously incompetent in the soft skills arena.
This adversely affects them when they need to establish rapport, get on a wavelength with others and develop trust.
These are the skills needed to communicate and present, influence and persuade others, achieve buy-in, conduct effective interviews, sell products and services, manage and lead change, negotiate with people and handle customers and clients. These are high level skills revolving mainly around the practise of assertive behaviour and an honest and detailed self-knowledge and awareness of what makes ourselves and others tick.
