Emotional Intelligence

This is a 2 day course / workshop

1. See bottom of page for scheduled course dates.

2. If you have 4 or more delegates we can schedule a course for you, or run it in-house. Contact us online or call 0115 984 9940 for details.

Who will benefit: Anyone who is interested in learning more about the concept of Emotional Intelligence and who wishes to improve or develop some elements of their own Emotional Intelligence. Anyone who would like to be even more successful in what they already do, take more control of their life and in particular, work more successfully with other people.

Objectives: By the end of the course/workshop participants will be able to:

  • Understand the concept of EI and its importance to successful performance.
  • Describe the 4 domains of EI and their inter-relationship.
  • Understand the set of competencies that underlie each EI domain and identify their personal strengths and weaknesses within these.
  • Use a set of tools and techniques to begin to develop their weaker competencies and to further develop their strengths.
  • Identify ways that they personally can create and support more positive relationships with those around them.

  • Course Itinery:

This course is designed to support and develop the Emotional Intelligence of an individual. It will encourage them to look objectively at their normal sets of behaviours, consider whether these are always the most successful and encouraged to adopt a more flexible behavioural style, adapting to the needs of the situation. They will be encouraged to take responsibility for their own emotions and for the impact that their emotions have upon other people. They will become more aware of the emotions of others and how they can use this increased awareness to create and develop more positive relationships with others.

The penultimate module gives the delegates an opportunity to practice their new skills in a safe simulation through coaching and then roleplaying with an actor. Initially two actors will roleplay common conflicts arising from poor Emotional Intelligence and the delegates will be asked to 'coach' one of the actors through the roleplay to resolve the situation as positively as possible. Once the sample conflicts have been resolved, the delegates will be given the opportunity to test their own skills by roleplaying a potentially difficult situation with one of the actors.

Finally they will be given the opportunity to identify their future goals and the role that EI will have in allowing them to achieve these.

Module one - What is Emotional Intelligence?

  • The history of EI
  • IQ vs EQ
  • What are emotions?

  • Delegates given the opportunity to roleplay potentially difficult situations with one of the actors to practice their own EI skills. Feedback given by other delegates at end of roleplay.

  • Module five - Emotional Intelligence for Future Success

  • Future goals - short, medium and longer term
  • Peer coaching triads set up and rules established
  • Identification of further support needed if necessary

  • This programme can be followed up by an intensive period of coaching from both the participants' peers and the training consultant. Emotional intelligence is not a skill that maybe learnt in a day but rather a full set of behaviours and attitudes which can only fully develop through practice and support.
