Who should attend?

The two-day refresher course is for delegates who have previously passed the full five-day Site Management Safety Training Scheme (SMSTS) course and can provide proof of attendance. It aims to bring health and safety knowledge up to date, as well as giving a thorough overview of the legislative changes and their impact in the workplace. The course includes a wide range of topics, many building on the previous five-day course programme, as well as introducing new subjects.

Pre-requisites

Only those delegates who have passed the five-day Site Manager Safety Training Scheme (SMSTS) course and can provide evidence of this are eligible to attend the two-day refresher course. Delegates must have passed the full SMSTS course within five years of their refresher course start date to be eligible. If you need to do the full course, please see the 5-day SMSTS Course.

Aims and Objectives

to improve awareness of recent developments in construction, legislation, health, safety, welfare and environmental health and safety issues;
to identify measures that will assist the practical implementation of health and safety responsibilities established by new legislation, and new working practices.

At the end of the course delegates will be:

aware of and able to implement all updated health, safety, welfare and environmental legislation which affects them in their role as a manager;
aware of and able to implement new guidance and industry of best practice;
more aware of their health and safety duties and responsibilities.

Course Material

Each delegate will be issued with the official CITB ConstructionSkills workbook and supporting material to assist them both during and after the course which will contain information, guidance and forms to assist delegates. The course is designed to be interactive, allowing delegates the opportunity to develop their skills and knowledge with the support of the course tutor.

Duration

The SMSTS Refresher course will be delivered over two days. Delegates must attend both days.

Course Tutor

Our health and safety consultants are qualified and experienced health and safety professionals with a background in construction safety and health, as well as delivering effective health and safety training. All consultants hold professional membership of the chartered Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH), a training qualification such as the PTLLS certificate, and are registered CITB ConstructionSkills (CSkills) trainers.

Certification

At the conclusion of the course delegates are required to undertake a short multiple choice assessment. Delegates who successfully complete the assessment are awarded the CITB Construction Skills Site Management Safety Training Scheme (SMSTS) Refresher Certificate.

Unlike some training providers, all of our open course prices include the course exam fees, certification costs, on-site car parking and study book(s), as well as a buffet lunch and refreshments throughout the day.
