This course is aimed at anyone with specific responsibility for risk assessments, and will also be beneficial for anyone involved in the risk assessment or risk management process. Typical delegates include supervisors, managers, directors and safety representatives.

The course is designed to give those with risk assessment responsibility a sound footing in the process of risk assessment. We introduce delegates to the relevant legal framework and current HSE recommended best practice. Key modules include:-

  • The business case for health and safety including the legal context (with specific reference to the Health and Safety at Work Act and Management of Health and Safety at Work regulations
  • Risk identification and evaluation
  • Control and management of risk (risk control hierarchy and reasonably practicable)
  • Record keeping and communication
  • The risk assessment process - including the HSE "Five Steps to Risk Assessment" and the principles of producing a suitable & sufficient assessment
  • Specific areas of risk control will be discussed (manual handling, fire, stress, noise, workplace transport, display screens, electricity, contractors, hazardous substances, workplace equipment and slips, trips & falls).

As part of the course, delegates will be completing sample risk assessments and participating in group work. In addition, delegates will be introduced to the Approved Code of Practice for the Management of Health and Safety at Work regulations.

Course Material

Each delegate will be issued with a workbook to assist them both during and after the course - this workbook will contain information and forms to assist risk assessors. The course is designed to be interactive, allowing delegates the opportunity to develop their skills with the support of the course tutor.

Course Tutor

Our health and safety consultants are qualified and experienced professionals with an appropriate background in this topic. All consultants hold professional membership of the chartered Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH).

The course will be delivered over one day.
