Who should attend?

This course has been targeted for those new to Manual Handling Trainer Training or those wishing to update their skills. The course will provide a broad and comprehensive overview of best practice in manual handling training techniques.

Aims and Objectives

This course is aimed at employees within an organisation who have been tasked with training other colleagues in safe manual handling principles - it covers safe manual handling techniques, manual handling risk assessment and trainer training techniques.

The course covers the latest key issues and priorities in manual handling including:-

  • Health and Safety Legislation - with a focus on the Manual Handling Operations Regulations
  • Manual Handling Risk Assessment
  • How to identify and control risks from Manual Handling
  • Manual handling related injuries including musculoskeletal disorders and work related upper limb disorders
  • Safe manual handling techniques - using the kinetic approach

Delegates will be guided through the Health and Safety Executive's guidance on manual handling as contained in L23 - Guidance on the Manual Handling Operations Regulations.


In addition we will explore modern trainer training techniques:

  • Planning and preparing to train, including the writing of trainers plans
  • Delivering effective training
  • Different Learning Styles using the Honey and Mumford approach
  • Dealing with difficult delegates
  • Providing feedback and assessment


Course Material

Each delegate will be issued with a course workbook to assist them both during and after the course - this workbook will contain information, technical knowledge, graphics and forms to assist manual handling trainers. In addition each delegate will be presented with a trainer's pack containing a Power Point presentation and training material (activities, exercises, etc) for use in their own sessions.

Course Duration

The course will be delivered over two days.

Certification

At the conclusion of day two, delegates will be required to design and deliver a micro training session on safe manual handling. This will enable them to practice their new skills and knowledge with expert feedback from our trainer before returning to the workplace.

Delegates will be awarded a Certificate of Attendance upon successful completion of the course.
