This course is aimed at those responsible for implementing or overseeing the company safety management system and will be useful for directors with oversight responsibility for health and safety. It is designed to provide persons with the skills and knowledge required to implement a health and safety management system to a recognised health & safety standard such as OHSAS 18001 or HSG65, in order to effectively manage their organisation's risks and ensure compliance with legislation.

The course will cover:

  • health and safety legislation - such as the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations
  • developing and implementing the health and safety policy
  • organising for safety including health and safety consultation
  • systems for accident reporting, investigation and analysis
  • risk assessment and control
  • emergency procedures
  • monitoring and reviewing performance
  • safety management systems: OHSAS 18001 and HSG65 internal auditing

On completion of this course delegates should be able to:

  • Identify the relevant health and safety legislation, develop and produce an effective health and safety policy for their organisation.
  • Implement a safety management system conforming to OHSAS 18001 and/or HSG65 health and safety standards.
  • Plan, programme and carry out internal audits to measure their organisation's performance in managing risk and complying with legislation.

Course Material

Each delegate will be issued with a workbook to assist them both during and after the course - this workbook will contain information, guidance and forms to assist managers. The course is designed to be interactive, allowing delegates the opportunity to develop their skills with the support of the course tutor.

Course Tutor

Our health and safety consultants are qualified and experienced professionals with an appropriate background in developing and implanting health and safety management systems. All consultants hold professional membership of the chartered Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH).

Course Duration

The course will be delivered over one day.

Certification

Delegates will be awarded a certificate of attendance upon successful completion of the course.
