Display Screen Equipment (DSE) Assessors Course

This is a 1 day course

Display screen equipment (DSE) risk assessments are not just a legal requirement - if they are completed properly they can help reduce the musculoskeletal disorders, upper limb disorders, reduced concentration levels and other ill health effects that are symptomatic of time spent at poorly designed workstations. These injuries, ill health and performance issues all impact on overall productivity levels within the organisation.

The course is aimed at delegates who are tasked with developing and producing effective DSE assessments to cover the requirements of the Health and Safety (Display Screen Equipment) Regulations 1992. This course will cover how to assess workstations and implement controls to ensure that the workstation and working environment are satisfactory.

The course will cover the following:

  • Legal requirements - including the Health and Safety at Work Act and DSE Regulations
  • Identification of DSE equipment and DSE "Users" and "Operators"
  • Development of workstation assessment forms and processes
  • Undertaking DSE Assessments - including identifying appropriate equipment and workstation set-up
  • Identifying and implementing controls to manage DSE risks
  • Developing guidance for the safe use of DSE equipment
  • Legal requirements for the provision of eyesight tests and glasses

  • Delegates will explore the principles and recommendations explained in the HSE guidance document L26, Work with Display Screen Equipment.

The course will culminate in each delegate undertaking a DSE assessment and providing appropriate recommendations on safe set-up and usage. This could be either in a realistic workplace setting (if available) or a simulated training setting - this will be discussed with the client and course tutor prior to the session.

    Course Material

Each delegate will be issued with a workbook to assist them both during and after the course - this workbook will contain information, graphics and forms to assist DSE assessors. The course is designed to be interactive, allowing delegates the opportunity to develop their skills with the support of the course tutor.

    Course Tutor

Our health and safety consultants are qualified and experienced professionals with an appropriate background in this topic. All consultants hold professional membership of the chartered Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH).

    Course Duration

The course will be delivered over one day to include theory and practical sessions.

    Certification

Delegates will be awarded a certificate of attendance upon successful completion of the course.
