This course is aimed at people with the responsibility for the health and safety of their employees and others who may be exposed to hazardous substances; basically supervisors and managers who will deal with chemical and harmful substances (COSHH) as part of their responsibility. The focus of this course will be on the management action required to ensure the safe use of COSHH substances.

The course will cover relevant issues likely to affect those managing the use of chemicals including:-

  • The COSHH regulations and principles
  • The ways in which substances can harm health and how they enter the body
  • How to define and monitor exposure limits
  • Conducting COSHH assessments and implementing controls
  • The importance and structure of Material Safety Data Sheets
  • Practical control measures
  • How to compile and maintain the necessary records


    • The course will also cover what is hazardous to health and discuss why safety should be managed proactively rather than reactively. Delegates will be briefed on the importance of procedure and implementation of a programme for the control and assessment of substances within their organisation.

    A DVD case study will be used to highlight the importance of managing COSHH risks effectively.

    Course Material

    Each delegate will be issued with a workbook to assist them both during and after the course which will contain information, guidance and forms to assist supervisors and managers. The course is designed to be interactive, allowing delegates the opportunity to develop their skills with the support of the course tutor.

    Course Tutor

    Our health and safety consultants are qualified and experienced health and safety professionals with an appropriate background in the health and safety industry and many years of experience in delivering engaging health and safety training programmes. All consultants hold professional membership of the chartered Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH).

    Course Duration

    The COSHH for Managers and Supervisors course will be delivered over one day.

    Delegates will be awarded a certificate of attendance upon successful completion of the course.
